About Penn State University

 

Pennsylvania State University is located in scenic Happy Valley in the state of Pennsylvania, USA.

 

Established in 1855, Penn State University has 19 campuses throughout Pennsylvania. The main Penn State campus at University Park (UP) covers about 5,500 acres and houses 13 colleges, including the Graduate School and Schreyer Honors College. The main campus has 20,000 faculty and more than 40,000 students.

 

Culture

The Penn State logo is the Nittany Lion and the school colors are blue and white. There are 667 student organizations. One of the most exciting events at Penn State is the Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) which is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Participants dance for 48 hours continuously to raise money for children's cancer.

About the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State University  

 

The College of Information sciences and technology was established in 1999. IST is an interdisciplinary field which looks at the connections between informaton, technology, and people. The College of Information Sciences and Technology has two unique four-year majors at the undergraduate level—programs that go beyond hardware and software to managing and problem solving with technology.

 

The IST building, which houses the College of Information Sciences and Technology as well as the Computer Science department, is an architectural phenomenon in itself. The building is a bridge over US-322 (Atherton St.) and houses state-of-the-art classrooms and media labs.
